Pick me up?
It’s Friday night and the occupants of the hostel were all getting ready to get drunk. As they got rowdier and rowdier, I find it harder and harder to set my mind to rest after what I have been through today. So I decided to go to the Internet Café at Elizabeth St – of course to upload my photographs.I walked down from King’s St to William St without any problem. As I went from the junction of William St and Bourke St, I realised that this Ang Moh has been following me quite closely. I quickened my footsteps, hoping that he will think that I’m in a hurry and will leave me alone.
Heaven wasn’t on my side as the traffic light turned red at the junction of Bourke St and Elizabeth St. He started talking to me, saying that there is a lot of traffic police out tonight and he didn’t know why. When the green man appeared, I hurried towards Internet café. But he was still following me, asking me where I stayed, am I here alone, where was I from etc. When I came across the betting station, I purposely stopped in front of the televisions there to watch the local soccer match. He stopped too, and asked me “you watch soccer?”
He started chatting to me again, so I stride towards the Internet café again. Again, he followed me. When I finally reached my destination, I just turned around and told him, “I’m going up, nice meeting you.”
“See you around,” he replied and he went towards Southbank.
