Otway National Rainforest

We made a stop at the Otway National Rainforest after lunch. A good 45-minute walk in the temperature rainforest that was humid, yet cooling. In fact, it was so cooling that I had no problems with my sinus at all. And this nose problem has been troubling me since we set out from Bell’s Beach.

According to Adam, eucalyptus trees are very heavy compared to the rest of the species. Inside the rainforests, we saw humps growing on the trunks of those age-old trees other than the eucalyptus. This is because the eucalyptus shed their bark from the top. This not only prevents parasites from growing on them, it also leaves the shed pieces of bark on the ground in their attempt to start a forest fire. Having a forest fire will enable their pods to split open and the seeds to spread. Interesting!

We came across some trees that had started to rot from the bottom. A “cave” will start to form as the rotting continues and one of the tree has a “cave” that can fit 25 people inside!
